A 200lb weight capacity means the hitch can handle a 200lb load within 1ft of the hitch receiver — not 200lbs resting 3ft further back. The further the load sits from the hitch, the more torque the receiver experiences. Don't confuse this with pulling a trailer over 200lbs, since a trailer's tongue weight (not its total weight) is what the hitch actually feels.
